Community Health Center of Snohomish County receives accolades from patient

All of my life I was fortunate enough to have access to quality health care. For the majority of my life I was covered by medical insurance through my parents’ employers and then my own employers.

When I became disabled and didn’t have the resources to pay for an individual health insurance policy, I was scared to death. Upon my return to Everett I was fortunate enough to be referred to the Community Health Center of Snohomish County. I was skeptical. My last employer was Stanford Hospital and I was receiving health care through the prestigious Palo Alto Medical Foundation. But very quickly I realized that my care through CHC was excellent. CHC takes every step possible to make sure that quality health care is being rendered in the appropriate venues.

People don’t have to use hospital emergency rooms for primary health care. When I qualified for Medicare through my disability status I was free to seek care with other providers. But I chose to stay with CHC. The care I have received since 2003 has been excellent. And every CHC employee is dedicated to their mission of guiding their patients through the system and providing quality care and support.

So I say thank you Community Health Center of Snohomish County, as a patient and as a resident of Snohomish County. You are an asset to us all.

  • Community Health Center Begins Construction of New Clinic at Current Location on Broadway in Everett
    3/22/2010

By January 2011, Community Health Center of Snohomish County will open a new two-story clinic on the grounds of their current clinic at 1410 Broadway in Everett.

By January 2011, Community Health Center of Snohomish County will open a new two-story clinic on the grounds of their current clinic at 1410 Broadway in Everett. The present clinic is over 40 years old. Maintenance costs drain valuable dollars away from patient care and the infrastructure of the building hampers installation new medical technologies.

    WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE

The new clinic will not only offer primary medical care for those in our community who are uninsured, underinsured or on State or Federal programs and pharmacy services for those patients, it will also offer dental care.

Within the 19,000 square feet, there will be 20 medical exam rooms and 9 dental exam rooms. The pharmacy will be larger and more efficient and there will be ample conference rooms for the popular Diabetes and Nutrition group meetings.

The infrastructure of the building will be state-of-the art, with electronic medical and dental records as well as other technology to provide safe, cost effective patient care.

     LEED CERTIFICATION

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. The system is credit-based, allowing projects to earn points for environmentally friendly actions taken during construction and use of a building.

     To achieve the maximum number of LEED points, some of the actions CHC will implement include;

    • Water efficient landscaping
    • A construction waste management program to recycle rather then divert debris to landfill
    • Installation of a white colored roof to reduce solar gain
    • Optimization of energy performance by increasing the amount of insulation and installing glazing with a higher insulation value. Standard lighting controls will be replaced by motion sensor controls and LED lighting fixtures will be used where appropriate.
    • Installation of a monitoring system within the HVAC system ductwork to regulate and ensure outside air is delivered to the occupants instead of recalculating inside air
    • The interior finishes used will contain low (or no) amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These gases contain a variety of chemicals, some of which have short and long-term adverse effects and are commonly found in paints, adhesives, sealants, carpets and coloring materials. By using products with low VOCs we will reduce occupant exposure to toxins.
    • All energy systems will be rigorously tested to verify optimal performance is being achieved.

    CONSTRUCTION COSTS

"By the time patients enter our doors, CHC will have invested nearly $10.5 million in this new clinic," reports CHC Executive Director, Ken Green. "About 7.5 of that will be for the construction and another 3 for all of the equipment and furnishings."

In June of 2009 CHC received the good news they had been awarded $1.355 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus money to off-set some of the construction costs.
