Motherhood is a wonderful gift and a huge responsibility. We know that you want to care for your baby the best that you can—and that’s what we want to do as well.

Our Family Physicians who practice obstetrics are specially trained on all things ‘mom’ and ‘baby’. They are there to provide helpful advice on prenatal care (how to care for the baby while you’re still pregnant), labor and delivery, and postnatal care (care after your baby is born). They are experts on how to keep you and your new baby healthy and well.

When you first find out that you are expecting, one of our Family Physicians who practice obstetrics will be there to confirm your pregnancy and prescribe different vitamins, exercises, and diet to keep you and the baby growing well. Pregnant women need more of some vitamins and minerals to help the baby grow. Taking the right vitamins and eating the right foods will help to lessen the risk of birth defects and pregnancy problems.

Other things our physicians will help you with are:

  • Nutritional counseling: We can provide nutritional advice before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and while breast feeding.
  • Monitor healthy pregnancy weight gain: Gaining too little weight or too much weight can show that there may be a problem with your pregnancy.
  • Perform ultrasound tests: This is done by applying a wand across your stomach. These tests can tell you the gender of your baby, show you how well your baby is growing, and let us know if there are any problems. These exams also give your obstetrician a better idea of your due date.
  • Recommend blood tests or other labs: There are various blood tests that are commonly run during a pregnancy to help monitor the health of you and your baby.
  • Detect any complications or health concerns for you or the baby: There is a variety of health risks that your physician will watch for to ensure that you have a safe pregnancy and delivery.
  • Assist you through your labor and delivery: Your physician will be there to help you through your delivery and your first moments as a mother.
  • Perform follow-up exams for you and your newborn: It is important to have regular check-ups after your baby is born. Your physician will check that they are gaining enough weight, are eating, sleeping, and digesting well, in addition to providing them with their routine immunizations. These check-ups make sure that both mother and baby are doing well!

Our obstetrics and prenatal team are specially trained doctors that are here to help moms along their journey through motherhood, from assisting with pregnancy issues, to caring for your newborn. They take great pride in helping you care for and deliver your baby, whether it is your first child or your fifth.
