Psychiatry

What Is Psychiatry?

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. While the word itself can be intimidating, seeking help can be a significant step in your mental health journey.

Seek help if you are experiencing, or think you are experiencing, anxiety, depression, bipolar, or other mental disorders. These disorders can directly affect the quality of your life.

By getting professional mental health care at Community Health Center of Snohomish County (CHC), you can return to living the healthy and happy life you deserve.

What Does a Psychiatrist Do?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors fully trained to assist their patients in improving their quality of life through testing, diagnosis, medicine management, and treatment.

A psychiatrist assesses, diagnoses, and prescribes for patients experiencing various emotional and mental disorders. As a result, the psychiatrist can order a wide range of laboratory and psychological tests, which gives patients insight into the disorder and allows them to be correctly diagnosed to receive the treatment necessary to stabilize their mental condition.

If you would like to schedule an appointment to see one of CHC’s psychiatrists, you must first be assessed by your primary care doctor. Please get in touch with your care team to learn more!
